This reader got only the barest sense of what life on the trail was like. Go download it right now. I would say it took a few chapters for me to identify with which character was which. You can pick whatever patterns you like of course. She prepares her covered wagon, oxen and her thoroughbred horse. The rest of the character accents are less bad, but none of them are good. They are all cookie cutter: the wounded, brave heroine; the shadowed, devastatingly handsome hero; the crusty heart-of-gold sidekick: the vulnerable child who reminds the heroine of her self, etc.
It will make you laugh, cry and tug at your heart. I liked the way the story began at a quick pace and was nicely paced throughout with twists and events that kept me turning the pages and reading late into the night. I really wanted to like Katherine Lowry Logan's book The Ruby Brooch, I really did, since I had heard so much good about it. I enjoyed the main characters story and the history. The great western migration was a fascinating period in American history but very little of the history of that time is incorporated into the story. For example, Kit has an iPod when she goes back in time. It seems like it's very easy for Kit to loose track of what purpose she has in the nineteenth century.
I loved going back in time to the wagon trains. I have this book in both eBook format and audio format. The dialogue was very sophomoric and forced in some scenes as well. Make sure you have some tissues handy and time on your hands because you will be enthralled. Teri is an awesome narrator and I just love to listen to her telling stories! Designers showcase their creativity with versatile brooch , that may be worn on a chain. The writer clearly did very little research, either about the history of the period, or about the conditions faced by various classes of people during this time.
It is well written in the class of Ciji Ware and Susanna Kearsley. I will not make here a list of all the things that where the same, it's sufficient to say, that a girl with a medical training travels to past and meet a highlander, who has shown himself as a ghost in her time, she falls in love with him and marries him in haste. The only clues to her identity are a blood-splattered shawl, a locket that bears a portrait of a nineteenth-century man, and a Celtic brooch with mystical powers. There was a plausible reason why the protagonist should be perfectly prepared to survive in the pioneer days, one that didn't even make me think it was an excuse. I liked the concept of this book however, the execution left a lot to be desired.
That said, I have started to collect brooches to enhance my scarf collection and look forward to this accent piece that will definitely not fade into the background! I felt like I was friends with them just like Kit was. I actually sensed more feelings between Kit and her cousin, than between Kit and Cullen. Both Kit and Cullen Montgomery are headstrong, sure of themselves, dedicated, passionate and neither are looking for love. I think because you kind of get thrown into the book and not really introduces. I was rooting for her the whole time, although she did act dumb a couple of times. She learns of the pin's powers in a letter from the man who raised her, upon his death.
One line of the book mentioned a picture of her riding in the World Equestrian Games. She quickly finds the Bach-humming, Shakespeare-quoting man to be over-bearing and his intolerance for liars threatens her quest. The journey is fraught with many dangers, floods, wide river crossings, steep drops, stampeding buffalo, bandits, snakes, but most of all, Kit is frightened of being declared a witch if her purpose is discovered. With A Twist Audiobook The Ruby Brooch is the first book of the Celtic Brooch Trilogy plus written by Katherine Lowry Logan and narrated by Teri Schnaubelt. Kit is the only remaining member of her family, having just lost her parents in a terrible accident. I really loved her Scottish accent.
I'd really like to know what iPod model she has because my battery dies within a day. Interesting concept I gave this book 3 stars instead of 2 because I actually made it to the end. I'm leaving my previous Okay, the third time is just as wonderful as the first time! First of all, we all use it to decorate our clothes, which is the most ordinary use of broeches and pins. The Ruby Brooch will be the exception. She is supposedly an experienced historical re-enactment player, yet she brings no period underwear. I am looking forward to the next book in this series.
I'm inspired by nature hence you will find that most of my jewelry items feature natural motifs. I've been reading a lot of books lately, now that I've been opened up to a bunch of new authors, and some are ok, some are bad and only a couple have been outstanding. I thought at the first it might be just a regular story, was I ever wrong. It was kind of unrealistic, to say the least and all the male characters started to blend together personality-wise. I've been reading a lot of books lately, now that I've been opened up to a bunch of new authors, and some are ok, some are bad and only a couple have been outstanding.
